We know you care about Lahaina’s rich culture, history and heritage when you show up in a big way to support our signature events. This was the case with the “Chinese Moon Festival” hosted at the Wo Hing Temple on September 22.

It was a perfectly warm, mid-autumn day. More than 1,500 heads were counted at the front gate yet many more of you enjoyed the festivities when we opened up the second entrance. There were so many activities including an exclusive tour of the upstairs of the WoHing Temple, Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan sessions by the Maui Chinese Martial Arts Academy, a special Gau Gee food demo and tasting by Chef Bobby Santos, deliciously authentic Moon cakes and Chinese teas, delightful GuZheng Harp Music and family-friendly activities such as fan-making by the Lahaina Arts Association and Chinese calligraphy and knot-tying.

We can’t wait for next year’s Chinese Moon Festival. This year’s was a huge success thanks to the many hands involved in the planning and execution. Mahalo to our hardworking staff, community, volunteers, and donors for making this important event come to fruition.

Chinese Moon Festival is sponsored by Hawaii Tourism Authority, Maui Office of Economic Development, and hosted by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation with the Wo Hing Society. Mahalo to event partners including Lahaina Arts Association, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu, and Maui Chinese Martial Arts Academy.
